For todays do now, I planned what my do now's would look like for the rest of the week.

With my photos from this photoshoot, since the theme around my board is memphis which has lots of geometrical shapes I was thinking of adding shapes into the background and around my images. Though I think I might retake these photos in front of just a blank wall or something that fits my color palette (pink, blue, yellow) more because it will be easier to work as the green background of the plants in the photos I have taken don't fit my color palette or theme at all.
As for applying gestalt into my posters, I want to play around with the similarity and common region aspects of gestalt. In some of my posters I have already made I've been playing around with similarity by repeating silhouettes of different instruments.
Max Huber, Borsalino, Traditional |
Johnson Witehera, Half blood, Aotearoa |
Dushan Milic, Hansel and Gretel, Contemporary |
For this design challenge, I mostly focused on big bold lettering. In almost all of my ideas the text is in uppercase. I tried playing around with different types of shapes and text types. I liked the idea of adding squares into my text. For example the middle text in the first image. I also like how the text is stacked on top of itself. I also like the bubble lettering in the last image. I want my logo to be bold and stand out, I don't want it to have a simple or elegant feel.
This is my mood board so far. The three artwork that I have chosen from my matrix are the first three. The first artwork is Hansel and Gretel by Dushan Milic, the second is Borsalino by Max Huber and the third is Surprematist Composition by Kazimir Malevich. I picked these three artworks by these three aritsts because I feel like the colors they use in all their artwork matches my theme of memphis the most. The last image on the first row has the type of colors I want my brand to have. The four smaller images on the second and third row is what I want my brand to look like. I like how the colors go together and the different patterns. The bigger image on the second row is different fonts/logos that I like. Again, I like how the colors work together and all the different unique fonts and patterns that are on them.
In English we are currently studying the film "Mad Max: Fury Road" directed by George Miller. This is a practice paragraph on a scene that Alayna and I wrote.
In the film “Mad Max: Fury Road” directed by George Miller the scene shows Max and Furiosa in the warlock driving as the wives sleep in the back with Nux. Miller powerfully uses dialogue to show the growing character of Furiosa and who she really is. The scene shows Max awoken from a nightmare where the camera cuts between Max and Furiosa with the wives in the back. There is also a two shot showing both Max and Furiosa. As Max awakens Furiosa says to him “It's okay, sleep, get some rest”. Miller effectively uses dialogue to show the nurturing, protective and loving side to Furiosa. When we first see Furiosa, she is shown to be tough and very reserved. Miller uses dialogue for the purpose of showing the maternal caring side to Furiosa. Seeing her being gentle and nurturing towards Max and the wives really opens our eyes to who Furiosa really is. It shows that she’s not finding the green place for herself but she’s finding it for her people. I think the purpose of this is to show that you don't have to be mean to be tough, but you can be kind and protective. The choice of using this dialogue also helps to show the growing connection between Max and Furiosa. Also showing that she is really coming out of her shell and that deep down she cares for all the people around her. She wants the best for everyone she meets. Originally Furiosa was going to kill Max but using this dialogue it shows how she needs Max and she cares for him. This really opens our eyes to the idea that people can hide who they really are. The choice of using dialogue helps the audience to understand that being tough and mean doesn't make you brave or smart but helping others around you does. Seeing the growing connection and nurturing side to Furiosa, it shows that the characters are beginning to open up and show who they truly are. In this scene dialogue works well with mise en scene. The director's choice of using mise en scene and dialogue together enhances the loving, nurturing protective side to Furiosa. As Furiosa is talking to Max the scene shows the placement of the wives behind Furiosa. Having the wives in the back opens our eyes to what Furiosa is really trying to accomplish. It shows that she is looking for the green place not just for herself but for the wives. She wants to make sure they can have the best life that is possible. Just like in real life, lots of mothers have a loving, maternal instinct to protect their child before they protect themselves. They seek for the best possible life that they can give their children instead of seeking it for themselves. Just like what Furiosa is doing, she is seeking the best life for the wives by protecting and nurturing them all the way until they find their peace.
For level 3 art I decided to do design. I have been brainstorming some ideas for some themes I may want to do.
