Mad Max: Fury Road Practice Paragraph

In English we are currently studying the film "Mad Max: Fury Road" directed by George Miller. This is a practice paragraph on a scene that Alayna and I wrote.

In the film “Mad Max: Fury Road” directed by George Miller the scene shows Max and Furiosa in the warlock driving as the wives sleep in the back with Nux. Miller powerfully uses dialogue to show the growing character of Furiosa and who she really is. The scene shows Max awoken from a nightmare where the camera cuts between Max and Furiosa with the wives in the back. There is also a two shot showing both Max and Furiosa. As Max awakens Furiosa says to him “It's okay, sleep, get some rest”. Miller effectively uses dialogue to show the nurturing, protective and loving side to Furiosa. When we first see Furiosa, she is shown to be tough and very reserved. Miller uses dialogue for the purpose of showing the maternal caring side to Furiosa. Seeing her being gentle and nurturing towards Max and the wives really opens our eyes to who Furiosa really is. It shows that she’s not finding the green place for herself but she’s finding it for her people. I think the purpose of this is to show that you don't have to be mean to be tough, but you can be kind and protective. The choice of using this dialogue also helps to show the growing connection between Max and Furiosa. Also showing that she is really coming out of her shell and that deep down she cares for all the people around her. She wants the best for everyone she meets. Originally Furiosa was going to kill Max but using this dialogue it shows how she needs Max and she cares for him. This really opens our eyes to the idea that people can hide who they really are. The choice of using dialogue helps the audience to understand that being tough and mean doesn't make you brave or smart but helping others around you does. Seeing the growing connection and nurturing side to Furiosa, it shows that the characters are beginning to open up and show who they truly are. In this scene dialogue works well with mise en scene. The director's choice of using mise en scene and dialogue together enhances the loving, nurturing protective side to Furiosa. As Furiosa is talking to Max the scene shows the placement of the wives behind Furiosa. Having the wives in the back opens our eyes to what Furiosa is really trying to accomplish. It shows that she is looking for the green place not just for herself but for the wives. She wants to make sure they can have the best life that is possible. Just like in real life, lots of mothers have a loving, maternal instinct to protect their child before they protect themselves. They seek for the best possible life that they can give their children instead of seeking it for themselves. Just like what Furiosa is doing, she is seeking the best life for the wives by protecting and nurturing them all the way until they find their peace.

Art Blog Post 2 | Color Palette

Color Palettes

Analogous

This color palette works quite well for my theme. The blue, purple and pink especially fit. If the yellow was a bit brighter it would be almost perfect.

Monochromatic

This palette doesn't fit well for my theme at all. These colors don't fit well with the memphis theme which is what my board is inspired by.

Triad

The pink and blue colors work well with my theme but the others don't. I don't really like some of these colors in this palette.

Complementary

I don't like this color palette at all. Apart from the last color, none of these colors look like they would really work well with my theme.

Split Complementary

I like how the blue, yellow and lighter purple work in this theme. Though it still doesn't fit my theme exactly. There is too many blue/purple colors for my liking.

Double Split Complementary

I think this color palette works almost perfectly for my theme. I would maybe change the first green color but apart from that I think it works well. The colors are bright which is what I'm going for.

Square

These colors are bright which is what I am looking for in my color palette but they aren't the colors I am looking for. In my color palette I want to have pink, blue and yellow.

Compound

This color palette doesn't work well with my theme. The colors are too dull for my liking and just don't fit the memphis theme.

Shades

Although this color palette is pretty, it isn't at all what I am looking for.

Custom
Although this palette is more dull than I was originally going for, I think it still works. I really like how the first three colors go together.

Custom
These are the colors I like for my color palette. I think the bright colors work really well for the memphis theme I am going for and I think they all work really well together.

Art Blog Post 1 | Design Themes Brainstorm

For level 3 art I decided to do design. I have been brainstorming some ideas for some themes I may want to do.

  • Music shop
  • Promoting an artist
  • Feminism
  • Clothing brand
  • Where I come from
  • Environment

Here is my brainstorm of other ideas that I wanted to do. I am thinking of doing a music shop. My shop will be a instrument selling shop rather than a record shop. As for my color palette and the aesthetics around my design work I think I want to do something with bright colors and a memphis style of art / 90s design style. I want my logos, posters etc. to have various different bright colors such as yellow, pink, blue, and I will also use black and white.

Panel Two Plan

For my panel two board, I plan to put album covers and posters throughout the board. I will be doing a minimum of 10 posters and a minimum of 5 album covers. I have referenced my artist models by the use of thick and thin lines, colors and shapes. My next steps are to finish my logo and then move onto my panel two work.

This is my progress so far

Art Design Portfolio Connections

In art design we have been looking at different connections throughout different art portfolios. In the portfolio that I looked at it was a film poster. We circled the different connections on panel ones and panel two. On panel one there are various connections between different types of logos, movie tickets and t-shirts. They are connected by using different colors and similar logos and symbols. On panel two there are various different posters. They have related connections through symbols and colors.

Ex Machina - Is Ava Human or Not?

Ex Machina - Is Ava Human or Not?

I believe that Ava is not human. Although she has the characteristics of a human and can do things at free will, I still believe she is not human. Ava was created by Nathan. He made Ava feel those fabricated emotions for Caleb as a test. Nathan original plan was to take Ava's chip after he was finished testing her and use it for another robot.
