English Speech

In English, we had to perform a speech about whatever topic we wanted. I did mine about plastic bags and why they should be banned in supermarkets etc.

Something I am proud of is the fact that I could actually get up there and say it to a small group of people. I was quite nervous at the beginning but now that I have actually presented it I don't feel nervous anymore and could probably do it again.

Something I would change for next time is to add more detailed information and make sure it is longer because my speech was just over a minute. I would also make myself look less uncomfortable while presenting because I feel as I look quite uncomfortable.

Ancient Egyptian Inventions

Ancient Egyptian Inventions

Ancient Egyptians used pictures to write, called hieroglyphics. Egyptians were the first people to develop their language into writing. It developed around 3150 BCE. Although it is just pictures, it is still the earliest form of writing. It could be written in any direction, left to right, right to left, top to bottom. It was very complicated because there are over 1000s of symbols. Because of this, it took years and years of education and practice to learn it, so only certain people would learn it. They were called scribes. They would start learning at a young age of six or seven. Only children of the wealthy got the opportunity to train as scribes. Normally, they would write on walls or tablets but they also invented a type of paper called papyrus. This was made from a tall reed-like plant called papyrus. It was made by using strips of the inner stem. They would place them horizontally and vertically in a square, then they would place linen cloth over the paper and apply pressure with a mallet or stones. The papyrus plant was also used for many other things. It was used to make boxes, baskets and mats, toys such as dolls, rope, and even small fishing boats. It could also be baked and eaten.

Stone Age Art

In social studies, we are learning about the stone age, so we decided to paint stone age art onto the classroom walls. Cavemen made this art to tell a story and it represented them in a way that tells how it was in the stone age and how they lived. The tools used in the pictures were used for hunting and killing animals for food.

10Bu Most Used Device and Cell Phone Evolution

Hours / Most Used Devices 10Bu
In social studies, we are learning about the history of cell phones so our teacher decided that we should time how much we use our phone over the weekend and these are the results. There were 23 people in total. The highest time was 43 hours and the lowest was 5 hours. The most used device was the phone and the least was the iPad/Tablet. The first graph shows the number of time people used their device and the second is which device was used the most.

We also made a timeline of the evolution of cell phones. From 1973 to 2017.

Essay: Should plastic bags be banned in supermarkets?

Should plastic bags be banned in supermarkets? I believe that plastic bags
should be banned from supermarkets because it is just a waste of plastic and
can harm animals. Plastic bags can cause pollution and affect wildlife.

Plastic bags and plastic overall are bad for the environment because they kill
animals, and pollute the water. Only 1 per cent of plastic bags are returned to
recycling and 80 per cent of ocean plastic pollution enters the ocean from land,
making the ocean very dangerous for wildlife. When plastic is burned chemicals
can get into the air and cause harm to breathing problems to animals and
humans.

Plastic can release harmful chemicals into the soil, this can cause serious
harm to the animals that drink the water. Animals mistake plastic and rubbish
for food and eat it. It is estimated that over the world around 100 million animals
are killed each year. Sea animals can get tangled in plastic, or swallow plastic
causing suffocation. This can happen to turtles, fish, sea birds and much more.

Nobody should litter. There are public rubbish bins for people to use all around
the mall and park. Even if there isn’t one around people should wait until they
have found a rubbish bin or wait till they get home. There are many ways to stop
plastic pollution. The easier one is to reduce your plastic usage. Buy a reusable
straw and cup. You can also buy reusable bags for shopping, most supermarkets
now are getting rid of plastic bags and are making you buy your own.

Too many animals, sea or land, are dying from plastic pollution.
Millions of animals die each year because of plastic in the ocean. There are
so many easy ways to reduce plastic usage, like reusable straws and cups.
