Children of Blood and Bone Essay

Children of Blood and Bone

Most people believe that there are two sides to every story. In Children of
Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi, an important idea is that there are two sides
to every story. I’m showing this idea in three different ways. When Amari and
Binta are told two different things about the world outside of the palace and what
magic is used for, when King Saran carves ‘Maggot’ into Zelies back, and when
Zelie called Binta Amari's slave.

An important idea in the book was that there are two sides to every story. This
idea was shown when Amari and Binta are told two different things about the
outside world and magic. Amari was told that outside of the palace was a bad
place and that she shall never go out there. She was also told magic is a bad
thing and to never trust the maji. Binta was told differently because she herself
is a maji. I think this links back to white people disliking people of colour
because they thought that they were bad people.

This idea is also shown when King Saran carved ‘Maggot’ into Zelies back.
This idea radiates that there are two sides to every story because King Saran
and his people think that Maji are bad people because one of them killed his
wife. King Saran wants every Maji and diviner killed because he thinks they are
all bad people just because of one person's actions. Amari thinks that he
shouldn’t think that way and she tries to help bring back the magic in the end.
She shows that she doesn't agree with him by killing him. Zelie and her family
obviously think that Maji and diviners are good people because they are
maji / diviners. I think this links to most arguments / disagreements people
have because there are always two sides to a story because people feel
different ways about different things.

The last idea that I think fits into the topic there are two perspectives to every
story is when Zelie called Amari’s best friend, Binta Amari’s her slave. The first
perspective is that Zelie thinks Amari is using Binta as a slave and isn’t her
friend for who she is, the second perspective is Amari. She knows she is
Amari’s friend for who she is and disagrees with Zelie.

These few paragraphs have shown us that you shouldn’t believe everything
you have been told, and to always hear the other side of the story. This also
shows us that you shouldn’t be disrespect someone without knowing how they
feel first.

Corrosion Experiment

Aim: Observing the effects of corrosion.

Corrosion is when metals are exposed to the environment they can deteriorate, or break down.

We put 5 nails in different test tubes with different stuff in them. There was a nail painted + nail polish, in water, oil, saltwater, calcium chloride + water, and magnesium + water. After 3 days we will find out which nail corroded the most.

Hypothesis: I think the magnesium + water or calcium chloride + water will rust the most and oil will rust the least.

Observations:
  • Nail polish: Rusted at the top and the nail polish came off.
  • Oil: Didn't rust at all.
  • Saltwater: Rusted the most.
  • Calcium chloride + water: Hardly rusted.
  • Magnesium + water: Rusted a little bit.
Saltwater rusted the most, oil rusted the least.

Left to right:
Nail polish, oil, saltwater, calcium chloride + water, magnesium + water.
